The Kaleidescape Server, available in rack mounted 1U and 3U sizes, stores your media in UNCOMPRESSED (reference) form.   This means the Kaleidescape Players will replay your music and movies exactly as they are recorded.  Forget about the loss of playback quality generated during compression to MP3 format.

Then place a Kaleidescape Player in each room where you want access to your collection, or share players mounted in your home's central A/V rack and distribute the pictures and sound using a media distribution system such as Crestron.

Kaleidescape lets each player operate independently, so your guests can watch a movie in the theater, while the kids watch another movie in the family room and the in-laws listen to music in the study.

The Kaleidescape Server stores your movies and music using Kaleidscape's proprietary enterprise computing technology called RAID-K.  In simple terms, this means if a single disk drive fails in your Kaleidscape Server, the movies and music are still there!   The Kaleidescape Server will report the failure to the Kaleidescape service center, and Smart Home Pro will contact you to schedule a disk replacement.   This is a great way to archive your DVD format home movies!

Whether you have 100 DVDs or 1,000, the Kaleidescape System can store them all.  From Kaleidescape's server, "A single Kaleidescape 1U Server fully loaded with four 1 TB Disk Cartridges can hold approximately 450 DVDs or 5,000 CDs. A single Kaleidescape 3U Server fully loaded with fourteen 1 TB Disk Cartridges can hold approximately 1,800 DVDs or 20,000 CDs. The exact numbers will vary depending on the specific DVDs and CDs that you import."  And if this isn't enough, multiple servers can be "clustered" into a very large system!
